These are the tools we use to run put.io, help you out and understand how it’s used. For each one, here’s what it does and what information it receives.
This page goes with our Privacy policy, and we update it whenever the services we use change.
Hosting and delivering the service
We use data-centre, cloud-hosting and content-delivery providers to store, process and deliver information as part of running put.io. Depending on their role, this can include stored files, account data and technical connection information.
Understanding usage and fixing problems
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Error and performance reporting | Helps us find and fix crashes, slowdowns and playback problems | Error and performance reports, account identifiers, and device and connection information. Playback-failure reports include file and playback details, but aren’t linked to your account and don’t include your IP address or location. |
| Product analytics and feature management | Helps us understand how people use put.io and manage which features are available in our apps | App, version, device type and feature usage, linked to your account. It never receives file names, media titles, links, search text or anything you type. |
| Subscription analytics and payment recovery | Helps us understand subscriptions, billing and customer engagement. It also recovers failed payments by retrying them, sending subscription emails and showing payment notices. Payment notices in the web app appear only if you’ve turned on product analytics. The card-update page linked from its emails works either way. | Account and subscription information, records of web-app visits and interactions with payment notices, and technical information such as your IP address. It shares customer, subscription and engagement information with our support platform to help us support you. It also uses your email address to get profile, demographic and social information from a third-party data-enrichment provider. We don’t use that information. |
| PAS (put.io Analytics Service), our in-house tool | Helps us understand page visits and sign-ups | Page visits, recorded using a cookie, only after you accept analytics on put.io or turn on product analytics in Settings. When you’re signed in, they’re linked to your account. |
Providing support
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Support platform | Support chat, help articles and account-related messages | Account, contact and plan details, device and connection information (including IP address and approximate location), relevant activity, conversations, and information about message delivery and whether emails were opened. It also uses identifiers to recognise you and keep conversations linked to your account. |
| Internal collaboration and issue-tracking tools | Help our team investigate problems and follow up on feedback | Relevant details from support requests and bug reports. |
If you’re not signed in, support chat only loads after you click Support or Chat.
Handling payments
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Merchants of record | Handle payments and billing | Your billing and payment details. Their checkouts may also use cookies and technical information. |
| Cryptocurrency payment processor | Processes cryptocurrency payments | The payment amount, plan name and transaction details. |
Providers that load resources in subscription and payment forms also receive technical information, such as your IP address.
Delivering emails
We use email-delivery providers to send our messages. They process recipient email addresses, message content and delivery information.
Making features work
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cast | Casting to a Chromecast | A device identifier, how you control playback, and what you cast: the file’s name, its preview image, and links to the video and its subtitles. Those links include a key that only works for that file. It can’t be used to sign in to or change your account. We use the version that doesn’t scan for nearby devices over Bluetooth. |
| Google reCAPTCHA | The “are you a person?” check on the page where you can lift a rate limit | Your IP address, information about your browser and how you interact with the check, and a Google cookie. |
| Product Hunt | The badge on our landing page | Your device’s IP address when the badge loads. |
